Currency || Weather || Distance || Railway Time || Airlines Time -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gateway of India ( Mumbai ) The Gateway of India Bombay's celebrated waterfront landmark was built in 1924 to commemorate the 1911 visit of King George V to India. Facing this memorial to the British Raj is a statue of Shivaji, the great seventeenth-century Maratha leader. It had a white plaster arch, which was later changed to the carved yellow besalt Gateway. The Gateway was built by the architect George Wittet. The statues of patriot Shivaji and Swami Vivekananda on the square, before the Gateway, enhances the scene. |
